Founded in the San Francisco Bay Area, SWAY is dedicated to helping youth find avenues to take climate action. As global temperatures have risen due to climate change, wildfires have become far more common in America. Wildfires are the most common in western states like California where droughts have exasperated these issues. Subsequently, wildfire smoke has been linked to various respiratory challenges that can be especially harmful to vulnerable community members.

SWAY aims to expose how environmental degradation, wildfires, and their smoke are an undercounted effect of climate change. ​

Additionally, other harmful effects of wildfire smoke are still being discovered. Work to address public health and wildfire smoke pollution remains critical. In order to help the communities and habitats most vulnerable to wildfire-related impacts, SWAY provides a megaphone for campaigns that address these issues.
